Welcome to Ropley Horticultural Society

Don't be afraid of the title we are just a bunch of keen gardeners wishing to extend and share our knowledge of gardens and gardening with others. We usually meet about seven times a year with speakers on topical horticultural subjects. We have our Flower of the Month competition at each meeting and in addition at the July meeting there is a Sweet Pea Competition. Other events include two Flower and Produce Shows as well as a Plant Sale. We also organise two or three member events when we typically visit other gardens for organised tours.

If you would like to join us please print out the Membership Form and bring it along to one of our meetings or alternatively send it to our Membership Secretary. If you haven't yet renewed your membership for 2026 please do so by making an internet bank transfer for £10.00 to our bank Sort Code 51-61-09 Business Account No.70002274 or come along to a meeting and renew.

Next Meeting.

Our next meeting on 27 April will be a talk entitled 'Vegetable Growing Ideas' with Barry Newman. There will also be an opportunity to renew your membership for 2026 as well as our Flower of the Month competition, raffle and sales table.

Garden Visits

We have three garden visits planned details of which are below.

Gill and Jeremy Carruthers have invited us to see their garden at Lyewood Nursery, Petersfield Road, Ropley, SO24 0ET. They have a beautiful flower garden and a wonderful vegetable garden. The visit will be on Monday 8 June at 2pm and the Committee will provide tea and cake! There is parking at the nursery, and I know it will be a lovely afternoon.

Spring Pond Garden, Laverstoke

We will be visiting Spring Pond Garden on 17 June. A romantic and classic English country garden, full of roses, clematis and colour-coordinated flower beds. The cost will be £15.00 per person, which includes tea and home-made cakes.

This will be a self-drive visit which starts at 2.30pm. The journey is likely to take 35-40 minutes, depending on the route you take. Please contact Christine or Jill if you would like a lift. There will be a board at our next meeting on 27 April for you to sign up if you would like to come and, with our usual policy, we ask for payment at the time of booking.

The address is Spring Pond Garden, Laverstoke, near Whitchurch, RG28 7PD. There is plenty of parking directly behind the house, which is approached by the lower entrance down Laverstoke Lane, 1 mile from the turning in Laverstoke from the B3400, opposite the Bombay Sapphire brick building. Toilet facilities are available. .

The American Museum and Gardens and the Bath Botanical Garden.

We have arranged a visit by coach to Bath on Thursday 9 July to visit two interesting gardens. The American Museum and Gardens and the Bath Botanical Garden. We will leave from Ropley Parish Hall at 8.30am. The cost will be £40 per person with priority for members and partners. There will be a board at the members meeting on 27th April to sign up if you would like to come. As with our usual policy, we ask for payment at the time of booking
