Plant Sale preview - Members' Donations Perennials
Detailed below are some of the perennials that will be on sale at Bloomers on the 22 May. These plants will be available on a first come first served basis and will need to be paid for on the day by contactless card. If you would like to reserve any particular plant please
email us. This will put a resevation on the plant but availability is dependent upon the donation having been made and the plant delivered.
Phlomis russelliana - £2.50 From late spring, right through to early autumn, whorls of hooded, pale yellow flowers appear at intervals on tall, erect stems with dramatic, heart-shaped leaves
Iris Blue or Yellow. £2.00 Pot luck it will be one of the other.
Eupatorium cannabinum £1.50 A native wild flower and an easily grown and attractive plant, with dense, terminal sprays (corymbs) of reddish-purple flowers from July to September. 4ft (1.2m)
Solidago 'Golden baby' £1.50 This is a dwarf form of that popular, ubiquitous plant, inferior forms of which seem to abound in gardens. By contrast, this is a fine strain producing numerous, superb, golden-yellow plumes in summer. 2ft (60cm)
Digitals ferruginea £1.50 The Rusty foxglove is interesting, striking and distinct with rusty reddish-yellow flowers in long, leafy spikes. Hardy plant for sun or shade. 5ft (1.5m)
Digitalis purpurea var. alba - £1.50 A biennial but it will self seed happily. Plant in a semi shaded location.
Phalaris arundinacea £1.50 is a variegated grass with green-and-white-striped foliage and narrow pale green flower panicles.
Achillea millefolium 'Colorado - yellow £1.50 A long lasting perennial on 24” stems. A gorgeous cut flower adding drama to bouquets and also has a long vase life too. 30”.
Helleborus argutifolius corsicus £1.50 In spring it sends stiff stems bearing handsome claw-like foliage of cool jade-green. In winter these tend to fall out like the spokes of a wheel to make way for the new shoots. By January every stem is topped by clusters of apple-green cups. It can be in flower from the new year through to summer.
Anaphalis margaritacea £1.50 Pearly everlasting is a charming perennial with beautiful silvery foliage topped by clusters of white and yellow-centred flowers, which are extremely popular with pollinating insects. A lovely addition to a gravel garden or prairie garden
Penstemon Sensation mixed £1.50 A superb medium to tall variety for the border (60cm) producing a profusion of flowers over the summer through to the first frost. A hardy annual / half hardy perennial it will over-winter in warmer areas.
Campanula rotundifolia £1.50 This is the well known, lovely native wild flower, found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, with delicate, nodding, blue, bell-shaped flowers in summer. 1ft (30cm)
Dahlia decorative - £1.50 - An assortment of large flowered varieties that at the very least will make excellent, much admired cut flowers and the tubers from the best can be lifted, stored and grown again the following year. 5ft (1.5m)
